I am a "Crunchy Mom"

7.06.2016

I am a "crunchy mom" & proud of it.

I wasn't always this way, but after having my 1st daughter I started pilates, then found out what clean eating was & couldn't go back...And that was just the beginning. 3 years later; now we're talking knee deep in cloth diapers, unpaper towels, & basically cloth EVERYTHING. It's better for the wallet & for this God-given planet. Some find satisfaction in a good shopping trip...I find satisfaction in eliminating the shopping list LOL!

What about health related things? My opinions are constantly developing in this area, but I think it's safe to say that I do avoid medications. Unless you have a disease, virus, or are in excruciating pain, I don't believe medication is the answer. Don't get me wrong, I am So thankful that we have life-saving meds out there, but too often is this convenience abused. You're going to hear me use the word, "convenience" a lot when discussing my views, so keep that in mind.

Instead of numbing your problem, why not try & fix it? You are giving in to a short-term solution for a long-term problem. For example: Your menstrual cramps are killer this month so you take 2 ibuprofen (400mg) twice a day that whole week. That's 28 pills (5,600mg) a week. A woman will have approximately 500 periods in her lifetime so let's say you only take ibuprofen for half of those periods. That will total to a STAGGERING 7,000 pills (1,400,000mg) taken JUST for period cramps! What about when you have that pesky headache? Back pain? Fever? or have you used ibuprofen for every period? That's 14,000 pills (2,800,000mg). Yeah...just TRY to calculate how much medication you're consuming. Did you know using ibuprofen over a long period of time is also said to cause heart attacks & strokes? So here's my alternative...

I have only had about 12 periods in the past 3.5yrs (I have 2 children & breastfeeding to thank for that!) but when I expected my period, I would stop eating meat completely & would make sure to be active that week. Guess what happened. Very minimal cramping if any at all! Treat your body the way the good Lord intended you to & you will surely be blessed!

Wow, I really dug into that one...So anyways, with that said, I'd like to introduce a new series of blogs I will be posting here. The topics discussed will vary from food/exercise/health to cloth/cleaning/home. The sources will be linked at the bottom of each in case you need further re-assurance ;)

Happily crunching, Elizabeth
